Get invoved with God's work in Africa | 2009/10!

Now is the time to get involved in the work that God is doing in Africa. He has called us to be difference makers and to reach out to those in need. With God’s help, each of us can do something - no matter our age or our life circumstances.

Listed below are multiple ways for you or your club to become involved in The Call to Africa.

Help us be good stewards and provide the right number of ALL items – not too many and not too few. Simply email the Service Center at africaprojects@gemsgc.org with the name of the item and the quantity you or your club will be providing. When we reach our desired number, we will remove the item from this list. Thanks for tending to this detail!

	Become a prayer warrior Orphans, widows, women, and children in Africa and around the world need your prayers as does the ministry of GEMS Girls' Clubs. Please join us in making a chorus of prayer! Support and expand Sister Clubs and provide training to leaders in Zambia More Sister Clubs in the US and Canada are needed before April of 2009 when the next training in Zambia will take place (to find out more about being a Sister Club, check out the Sister Club Booklet or fill out an application). Trained and motivated leaders are essential to the success of any ministry. Without initial and ongoing training, it will be unlikely that leaders in Zambia will receive the support, tools, and encouragement necessary to maintain a successful discipleship program. Support in any amount will help provide needed training to women desiring to become counselors and help the ministry to continue to grow and reach more girls with the love of Jesus Christ.
	Donate Off to the Sweet Shores of Africa and other Talking Drum Rhymes - URGENT NEED Did you know that girls in Zambia enjoy memorizing and reciting poetry? It’s true! Your can purchase copies of this poetry book by Uzo Unobagha (from Amazon.com for $7.95 each) to delight younger girls and inspire older girls to write their own poems. Feel free to read this book in your club before covering it with clear adhesive paper. It is used in their Personal Devotions and Poetry Badge. Check out the instructions for covering a book as well as a downloadable bookplate to put inside the front cover. Mail to the Service Center by as soon as possible with $4.00 US for shipping (per book) to Zambia. 100 copies needed.
	Help girls learn to sew We currently have all of the sewing kits we need for this season! Thanks to all of the clubs who sent in packets!
	Give Bibles to GEMS Counselors and girls in Zambia Bibles are needed! Every new counselor and older Zambian girl who is able to read is given a Bible and they are SO thankful! Most have never had a Bible nor could they imagine having one! Help girls and women in Zambia grow stronger in their faith by giving the gift of Bibles. With your gift of cash we will purchase these Bibles in quantity discount. Send $12.00 plus $4.00 US for shipping to the Service Center. And, download a bookplate to put inside each Bible you donate. Send with your donation. There is an ongoing need for Bibles, so money can be sent year-round.
	Donate supplies to new and existing clubs We currently have all of the pencil boxes we need for this season! Thanks to all of the clubs who sent in school supplies!
	Encourage and equip pastors Earn funds to purchase Africa Bible Commentaries to present to pastors of churches that sponsor GEMS Clubs. Pastors in Africa often have little training and very few resources. These commentaries are a precious and much appreciated gift and are presented to pastors after a club has been in operation for one full year. Send $32.00 plus $13.00 US for shipping to the Service Center. There is an ongoing need for commentaries, so money can be sent year-round.
	Help them see We currently have all of the reading glasses we need for this season! Thanks to all of the clubs who sent in donations!
	Construct and operate The Esther School Phase One of construction on the Esther School for orphan and under resourced children will begin soon! Praise the Lord! A road, septic system, well, housing for teachers, a preschool and kindergarten building, library, and clinic – all are included in Phase One of the school project. How can you help? EVERYONE can do something. and some people can do many things. Pray that God would speak to you about all the ways you can help. Find out more about getting involed with constructing the Esther School through a missions trip!
	Support the children and momma in The House that GEMS Built All eight children and the momma in The House that GEMS Built are currently in need of sponsors. $56 a month covers the costs for food, clothing, school, and medical care. Additional expenses related to their ongoing care and the upkeep of the house are also needed. Support in any amount may be applied to The House that GEMS Built.
