Many of our families, girls in our clubs, and individuals we know are affected by gluten in their diet, a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley. Gluten is in commonly consumed foods such as breads, cereals, pasta, candy, sauces and seasonings, french fries, and a long list of others. When preparing snacks, cooking, or baking for affected individuals, a “gluten free diet” is a must! Have you ever wondered exactly what gluten is, what types of food it’s found in, or how it affects your health? These workshop leaders will share their experience with gluten, especially as it relates to Celiac Disease, which affects 1 in every 100 people. You’ll be educated in how to properly read and understand food labels, how eating healthy foods can ease symptoms caused by gluten, understand more about Celiac Disease, and enjoy sampling a host of gluten-free foods!
