Hide it in Your Heart

I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Praise be to you, LORD; teach me your decrees.

Psalm 119:11-12 (TNIV)

Summer:

Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

Proverbs 16:24

Breaking it Down:
Sometimes it’s really easy to complain. When we don’t get our way or things get hard we can whine, protest, and grumble. But, God reminds us again and again that our words matter. What we say affects other people and it affects us! God cares about our words just as much as He cares about our actions.

Pleasant words are as sweet as honey. They are nourishing, healing, and sweet to hear. Pleasant words benefit everyone who hears them! What sweet words have you said today?

Can you name the bestselling book of all-time? Any guesses? If you said the Bible, you’re right! God gave us His Word as a gift and as a means of staying close to Him. The Bible gives us instructions on how to live our lives to honor God. What an amazing gift!

When you memorize scripture, you are preparing yourself to face situations in a Godly way. When you hide God’s word in your heart, His Spirit can use His truths to guide you through your day.

Tips for memorizing scripture:

  1. Start small. Don’t try to memorize huge chunks at once – too much at one time can be overwhelming and you might not remember it all. Pick a verse or two at a time.

  2. Pick a version. You don’t have to memorize everything from the same version of the Bible. Mix it up and find the wording that is most inspiring or meaningful to you.

  3. Give yourself time. Don’t try to memorize scripture too fast. Start out by committing to memorizing a verse every two weeks or every month until you get the hang of it.

  4. Write it down. Keep note cards or a journal and write down every piece of scripture that you memorize so that you can review them from time to time.

  5. Grab a friend! Ask a friend or family member to join you and then help hold each other accountable. Pick a passage to memorize together – recite it to each other over the course of the week until you’ve both got it down!
