Stay Connected - Summer Fun! "We rig up a large 6x9 screen (borrowed from a local company) on the church lawn. A large sheet anchored to PVC pipe works well, too. If you are fortunate enough to have a light-colored church building, you can run the movie right onto the wall," reports Valerie, the Club Coordinator. "We choose a kid-friendly movie like Night at the Museum (always preview the movie first! Don't rely on your memory as to whether or not it's appropriate!) and print out flyers that we mail out to our girls and their families; in addition, we blanket the neighborhood the day before with our flyers. Our latest result...was most of our girls attended, as well as a large number of neighborhood families. We had information about our GEMS and Cadet clubs there and gave away some door prizes donated by a local Christian bookstore (posters, t-shirts, CDs)." |

African Market Woodhaven Christian Reformed Church in Granville, Michigan created an African market complete with huts and goods. They used these funds raised to support GEMS ongoing efforts in Zambia. GEMS from York Maranatha Christian Reformed Church in Cayuga, Ontario held a dessert auction to raise money for The Call to Africa. Since the event took place on Valentine’s Day, the ladies who attended got some extra-special treatment including chocolate roses and a punch bowl. Girls served coffee, tea, and punch to their guests and assisted the auctioneer. “They were very proud of their baked goods!” reports Diane Visser, Club Coordinator. |
