God Loves Green

The earth is the LORD's,
and everything in it,
the world,
and all who live in it.

Psalm 24:1

GEMS is working hard to honor God by being responsible stewards of His entire creation. As we revamp some of our own practices, we invite you to join us in being conscious of the impact that we all have on God’s creation.

Go Green

Some people, in order to discover God, read books. But there is a great book:
the very appearance of created things. Look above you! Look below you! Read it. God, whom you want to discover,
never wrote the book with ink.
Instead, He set before your eyes
the things that He had made.
Can you ask for a louder
voice than that?

~ St. Augustine

Green Truths
What is GEMS doing?
GEMS is now using a post-consumer recycled paper in every issue of SHINE brightly and Sparkle Magazines. Over the course of a year, this process will:
  • Save 86 trees
  • Eliminate 5,569 lbs of solid waste
  • Save 52,562 gallons of water
  • Reduce air emissions by 15,533 lbs
  • Conserve 42,479 ft3 of natural gas

In addition, both magazines are now printed with a vegetable-based ink that reduces the amount of volatile organic compounds (VOC) released into the air. VOCs contribute to air pollution and can also damage soil and groundwater.
